Learn more about Oregon House Bill 2493 slated to pass in January 2022 & how this will affect your practice
if you don’t currently hold a license to heal.
We will writing more about this in our Fall Bend Health Guide.
January 2022 Oregon will most likely pass a Licensing requirement for all healers who are not currently covered under other licensure. HB2493 starts with a voluntary registry for alternative therapists that they can choose to join. It may become more enforced as time goes on as California suddenly decided to require Massage Therapy training for ALL healers, even Art Therapists, that seems excessive.
Once registered member mays be subject to ethics coursework and other certification requirements. The benefits of joining will include having alternative therapies covered by health insurance. This bill was created for both consumer protection but also practitioner protections against liability or malpractice suits. It is controversial, some feel it is taking away our medical freedoms, others complain that the state is trying to make money off healers. As a LMT of 23 years, I have always been licensed, taken ethics coursework, bought liability insurance through AMTA. It seems unfair that someone can just put a shingle up & offer essentially the same healing services without any training or certification. Sometimes unlicensed healers will dabble in modalities such as tuning forks by just purchasing them online with no proper training. As someone who trained with Acutonics for 3 years at Bastyr University, it does seem like we would benefit from some certification requirements in alternative therapies.
I spoke with 2 experts Gail Jett of Advanced Healing Energetics, Licensed Nurse & LMT, Dr. Melinda Connor & Katelyn Connor who all sat on the board for HB2493, you can watch the video on our BHG YOUTUBE Channel.
