The planet mercury goes retrograde 3-4 times a year in Astrology. This retrograde concept becomes a debate between Astrologers & Astronomers, Astrology predates Astronomy, in ancient Greek, they didn’t have the Technology & Telescopes & Astronomical Wisdom that we have today. So it appeared to Astrologers that the planet Mercury was moving backwards. Mercury’s retrograde motion can be understood by knowing that all of the planets in our solar system orbit the Sun at different distances and speeds that we call cycles. I am sure you learned about this in school. The earth also orbits the Sun. We can observe planets moving across our sky, following their own paths & cycles. It may appear, from our Earthly perspective, that a planet has switched directions & is now moving in reverse. This is actually an illusion caused by our position on Earth in relation to that planet, since a planet in orbit always travels in a set direction and doesn’t exactly reverse course just for our point of view.
