Elderberry Syrup Recipe by Alyson Brown
Elderberries are rich in Vitamin C, antiviral properties, and have been used in folk remedies to provide an immune boost for centuries. This recipe is from Alyson Brown of Wild Folk Flower Apothecary, more recipes can be found on her site: https://www.wildfolklore.com
2 Cups Cold Water
1 Cup dried Elderberries
1 Cinnamon Stick
1 tsp ginger root
1 tsp cloves
2 tsp dried orange peel
10 Cardamon pods
5 whole Star Anise
1 split Vanilla Bean
1 cup Raw Local Honey
Combine berries & herbs with water in a pot & bring to a boil. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 45 minutes. Remove from heat & mash the berries in the liquid mixture. Strain berries & herbs through a cheesecloth to squeeze out all of the juice. Add honey, heat the liquid and honey mixture on low until is well combined. Do not boil… Bottle in a sterilized glass jar. These recipes are tried and tested in my home with my family, they have not been tested by the FDA.
